Visiting The Gray Barn in Woodstock Farm Sanctuary

April 2, 2019 By Stephanie Hope No Comments

Last year was the first time I had ever been to a farm sanctuary, specifically this one. It was completely eye-opening for me, even as a long-time vegan. Being able to see these rescued farm animals living their best lives finally was so heart warming. I feel like there’s such a disconnection with farmed animals, which causes so many to turn a blind eye to how they’re treated and eaten. Coming to a farm sanctuary helps you learn more about the industry, and connect with these sweethearts. Woodstock Farm Sanctuary has a really really special place in my heart for everything that they do. This is why I was SO ecstatic to have the opportunity to stay in their new inn, opening April 2019! I took some pretty fun photos of the whole experience and we honestly had the best time staying here.

The Gray Barn is a completely new building, boasting gorgeous windows and minimalist designs. I would say the style is very Scandinavian and it’s truly breath-taking. Every piece has been carefully chose to compliment the space, as well as be high quality AND ethical. Staying here makes you feel completely at ease.

woodstock farm sanctuaryThis bed & breakfast style inn has 5 rooms, named after some of the residents on the property. We stayed in the Agnes room, named after one of their lovely pigs! Each room has their own bathroom and beautiful views of the mountains across the lake.

The highlight of this stay was absolutely the main room, which is shared with all the guests. The floor to ceiling windows in the living room are completely breathtaking. The light and warmth that shines into the room really soothes you. Let’s talk about this kitchen though. I mean, GOALS. I never knew I needed a kitchen like this until now.

woodstock farm sanctuaryAdding to the beauty of the kitchen is the morning breakfast included in your stay. The breakfast made is 100% vegan, so you can eat with ease! Every single food product in the barn is completely vegan, so you never have to worry if there is creamer for you. They cater nicely to people with gluten allergies by making options for those people, but they do ask for your restrictions before your stay.

The first day we had probably the BEST breakfast sandwich I have ever had in my life. I ate it so quickly, I didn’t even get a photo! Breakfast was a mouth-water Just Egg sandwich with tempeh bacon. It was…incredible. I think about it still! She also made a scrumptious crumble that I DID take a photo of and it was divine.

woodstock farm sanctuaryThe second day was oatmeal with lots of fresh toppings, and a potato & veggie hash with Field Roast Sausages. It was also delicious, but honestly nothing can top that sandwich in my eyes.

Included in your stay is a tour of the farm and meeting the animals! We got to meet so many and this was the first time I have ever pet a cow before. Let me just say, cows are literally just huge dogs. They’re so sweet and just want tons of pets.

woodstock farm sanctuaryOverall, we had an absolutely amazing stay. The barn is absolutely gorgeous, the food was amazing, the host was spectacular, and I honestly can’t wait to stay again! Only if she makes those sandwiches though! You can book your stay with them here!

i still can’t believe there’s a wee baby insid i still can’t believe there’s a wee baby inside my body right now ready to come out soon. just squirming around, hiccuping. it’s so unreal. the fact that my body just knows what to do despite spending my entire adult life convinced i 1. didn’t want a child and 2. wasn’t capable of being a (good) mother.

if i’m being honest, my fears came from my poor relationship with my own mother. i was raised to be afraid, to never feel like i would be good enough (spoiler alert: never was to her!) but to constantly try, and to feel like i had to buy love from people around me. now i know better. i know that i can just love my daughter unconditionally, help her see that i will ALWAYS be her safe space and never the thing to be afraid of, and that she never has to buy my love.

being a mom is something i never thought i would do, but i am ready to dive in and be the mother i always wanted growing up but never had. 💕 Photos are all from @jaceyanastasio ! #motherhood #pregnancyjourney #maternityshoot
I don’t see my stretch marks as battle scars, ti I don’t see my stretch marks as battle scars, tiger stripes, or a badge of honor. To me, they’re just skin stretching—because that’s what skin does. It doesn’t have to carry a deeper meaning or be a symbol of anything. It doesn’t have to be proof that I’m a mom to make me feel like a mom. My motherhood isn’t defined by the marks on my body; it’s in the love I give, the patience I practice, and the moments that shape this journey.

I don’t need to call my stretch marks anything to accept them, and for me, that’s freeing. They’re not good or bad, beautiful or ugly—they just are. A natural part of being human, of growing, of changing.

That being said, if giving them a name or a purpose helps you embrace them, that’s amazing! Every mom’s journey is different, and so is the way we process the changes that come with it. This is simply what works for me—letting my body be, without pressure to find meaning in every mark. No labels needed, no justification required. Just me, existing as I am. #pregnancyjourney #stretchmarks #pregnancyphotoshoot #maternityshoot
