Why You Should Switch to Natural Deodorant

May 28, 2019 By Stephanie Hope No Comments

This is a bit different from my usual content I post, but it’s something I want to dive into a bit more, and that’s health products I use. Switching to a plant-based lifestyle, there were a few things I changed almost immediately, like deodorant. It was not an easy transition to switch from the regular commercial products to a more natural one, but it was absolutely worth it. Today, I want to talk about why you should switch to natural deodorant. This blog post is NOT sponsored, but I will be mentioning a specific product I use. *This post may contain affiliate links.

Why You Should Switch to Natural Deodorant

Aluminum

One of the main reasons I switched (and is probably one of the reasons you’re considering it) is because of aluminum. There have been numerous studies showing aluminum-based deodorant correlating to multiple health issues, such as Alzheimer’s and breast cancer. Of course, correlation doesn’t mean it’s 100% true, but is it honestly worth the risk? I don’t think so. Most, if not all, natural deodorants will NOT have aluminum and that should be more than enough reason to switch.

Natural deodorants contain plant-based ingredients that moisturize and treat your armpits like the delicate skin it actually it. Containing ingredients such as shea butter, coconut oil, charcoal (a great deodorizer), and olive oil. These ingredients may actually improve the condition of your pits making them less prone to those pesky razor bumps.

One of the reasons I feel most people DON’T make the switch is because they claim they are ineffective. I can totally understand this claim! When I first started using natural deodorant, I had to reapply multiple times a day to keep any smells at bay! This is because the ingredients in antiperspirants clog your pores, keeping your pits from sweating. Natural deodorants won’t do that, but they will allow your pores to breath, letting good bacteria in to help combat body odor. The issue is, it takes your body a couple of weeks to adjust to this new change. If you can get past the first couple of weeks, your body learns to combat the smell, and you’ll thank yourself for making the switch!

I have been using Tom’s natural deodorants for the past 5 years now and I absolutely love their products! I even use their toothpaste! Despite living in a pretty small town, I can still manage to find Tom’s products in my local shops, so it’s one of those products I’m happy is easily accessible for me.

why switch to natural deodorant

If you’re interested in trying a new natural deodorant, but don’t know where to start, I would get Tom’s! It’s easy, smells great, and it’s moderately priced! I always carry my deodorant with me wherever I go because I just don’t like to smell, but I don’t ever need to apply more than once or twice than when I first started using it!

Here’s a few other natural deodorants that have great reviews!

  • Humble All Natural Deodorant
  • Schmidt’s Rose + Vanilla
  • Love Beauty and Planet
  • Schmidt’s Bergamot & Lime

i still can’t believe there’s a wee baby insid i still can’t believe there’s a wee baby inside my body right now ready to come out soon. just squirming around, hiccuping. it’s so unreal. the fact that my body just knows what to do despite spending my entire adult life convinced i 1. didn’t want a child and 2. wasn’t capable of being a (good) mother.

if i’m being honest, my fears came from my poor relationship with my own mother. i was raised to be afraid, to never feel like i would be good enough (spoiler alert: never was to her!) but to constantly try, and to feel like i had to buy love from people around me. now i know better. i know that i can just love my daughter unconditionally, help her see that i will ALWAYS be her safe space and never the thing to be afraid of, and that she never has to buy my love.

being a mom is something i never thought i would do, but i am ready to dive in and be the mother i always wanted growing up but never had. 💕 Photos are all from @jaceyanastasio ! #motherhood #pregnancyjourney #maternityshoot
I don’t see my stretch marks as battle scars, ti I don’t see my stretch marks as battle scars, tiger stripes, or a badge of honor. To me, they’re just skin stretching—because that’s what skin does. It doesn’t have to carry a deeper meaning or be a symbol of anything. It doesn’t have to be proof that I’m a mom to make me feel like a mom. My motherhood isn’t defined by the marks on my body; it’s in the love I give, the patience I practice, and the moments that shape this journey.

I don’t need to call my stretch marks anything to accept them, and for me, that’s freeing. They’re not good or bad, beautiful or ugly—they just are. A natural part of being human, of growing, of changing.

That being said, if giving them a name or a purpose helps you embrace them, that’s amazing! Every mom’s journey is different, and so is the way we process the changes that come with it. This is simply what works for me—letting my body be, without pressure to find meaning in every mark. No labels needed, no justification required. Just me, existing as I am. #pregnancyjourney #stretchmarks #pregnancyphotoshoot #maternityshoot
