3 Ways to Wear Skirts in the Fall

October 8, 2019 By Stephanie Hope No Comments

If you live anywhere in the North, it’s already starting to get cold. I checked the weather this upcoming week, and it’s already only in the 50s for the highs. It’s time to put away the tank tops and skirts. Or is it? Despite the fact that it’s probably frowned upon by anyone who lives in New England, I wear skirts all year. Yes, even in the Winter. Today I’m going to show you 3 ways to wear skirts in the Fall. It’s actually really simple.

3 Ways to Wear Skirts in the Fall

There’s obviously so many different ways to wear skirts in the Fall, and even in the Winter. However, I want to talk about the three methods I use to keep myself warm while still being stylish. At least until it’s cold enough to freeze my organs.

1. Sweaters

My first tip to you for wearing skirts in the Fall is to pair them with a cozy sweater. Who needs warm legs when you’ve got warm arms?! If it still isn’t too cold out, sheer tights will work just fine. I personally notice that my legs don’t get cold very easily, so I’m able to get away with wearing tights most of the season without wanting to die.

When wearing a sweater with your skirt, tuck the sweater in. When it’s completely tucked, pull some of the fabric out around the waistband of the skirt to create a slouchier look. I paired this sweater with a removable peter pan collar. I got mine here.

Pair with a simple loafer and a cross body bag and you’re ready to go!

2. Layering

One of the most obvious and important tips to wearing skirts in the Fall is layers. Layers will be your best friend. The “skirt” I’m wearing in this outfit is actually a dress! I know, I cheated. However, I think this is a great way to show layering and still have the illusion of it being a skirt. For this look, I paired this adorable burnt orange dress with a warm, chunky sweater. I added another removable collar from the same company and I’m obsessed with this one. It’s such a novelty for the season and so worth the money. You can get it here.

Instead of tights, for this look I decided to wear knee high socks. This is another ideal way to stay warm in the Fall. Socks are much warmer than sheer rights, I do have to say. If you’re extra cold, one of my tips is to wear socks over your tights for some extra added warmth. Finished the look with a Modcloth cross body bag, and thrifted Mary Jane heels.

3. Socks

Going back to the point I made earlier, socks are your friends this season. I’m really only saying these because I’m a sock fiend. The amount of socks I own is alarming. In the Fall (and even Winter) socks will be your friend. You can wear them with tall boots for extra warmth, or with a skirt the way I am in this outfit. I went with an over-the-knee cat sock to go with the season and it’s just so cute.

Style the outfit with a warm flannel shirt! If you’re still too cold, feel free to wear a long sleeve shirt underneath the flannel for some more layers. Paired this look with a cross body bag and loafers. Such a cute Fall look.

i still can’t believe there’s a wee baby insid i still can’t believe there’s a wee baby inside my body right now ready to come out soon. just squirming around, hiccuping. it’s so unreal. the fact that my body just knows what to do despite spending my entire adult life convinced i 1. didn’t want a child and 2. wasn’t capable of being a (good) mother.

if i’m being honest, my fears came from my poor relationship with my own mother. i was raised to be afraid, to never feel like i would be good enough (spoiler alert: never was to her!) but to constantly try, and to feel like i had to buy love from people around me. now i know better. i know that i can just love my daughter unconditionally, help her see that i will ALWAYS be her safe space and never the thing to be afraid of, and that she never has to buy my love.

being a mom is something i never thought i would do, but i am ready to dive in and be the mother i always wanted growing up but never had. 💕 Photos are all from @jaceyanastasio ! #motherhood #pregnancyjourney #maternityshoot
I don’t see my stretch marks as battle scars, ti I don’t see my stretch marks as battle scars, tiger stripes, or a badge of honor. To me, they’re just skin stretching—because that’s what skin does. It doesn’t have to carry a deeper meaning or be a symbol of anything. It doesn’t have to be proof that I’m a mom to make me feel like a mom. My motherhood isn’t defined by the marks on my body; it’s in the love I give, the patience I practice, and the moments that shape this journey.

I don’t need to call my stretch marks anything to accept them, and for me, that’s freeing. They’re not good or bad, beautiful or ugly—they just are. A natural part of being human, of growing, of changing.

That being said, if giving them a name or a purpose helps you embrace them, that’s amazing! Every mom’s journey is different, and so is the way we process the changes that come with it. This is simply what works for me—letting my body be, without pressure to find meaning in every mark. No labels needed, no justification required. Just me, existing as I am. #pregnancyjourney #stretchmarks #pregnancyphotoshoot #maternityshoot
