You’re going to think I’m totally insane for constantly getting inspired by a game, but The Sims has a lot of delicious-sounding dishes. I have already made a garlic noodle recipe inspired by the game, but now I decided I wanted to create some easy garlic tofu tacos. If you don’t already see on my Instagram bio, I love vegan tacos. I think they’re just one of the most delicious things you could put in your mouth! There’s so many different ways you get enjoy a delicious taco, but today’s method is a way of mimicking meat. NO, this will NOT taste literally anything like actual meat.

This is very obviously tofu, and it’s important to enjoy it for what it is! This recipe will take you about 30 minutes to complete and can make probably about 5-6 small vegan tacos or just one huge delicious taco. That’s up to you.

Easy Garlic Tofu Tacos

I am a huge fan of making tofu tacos now that I’ve figured out a method I enjoy: baking it! Popping the tofu in the oven to get it cooked has made this much more enjoyable for me. One of my favorite things about this recipe is that you can alter the spices to make it work for you. Don’t like paprika? Don’t add it! However, I recommend you do because it makes it taste so delicious.

You should absolutely get extra firm tofu for these vegan tacos as it will hold better when you tear it apart into pieces. I use the Nasoya brand for all of my tofu recipes!

Since the tofu crumbles are different sizes, you’ll find that the tofu gets various textures. This is a good thing! When you break the tofu, you want to have big pieces as well as tiny little crumb size ones. Obviously the smaller pieces will get crunchier as they bake. The larger pieces will be a little softer, but will still be super delicious. This will make for a very tasty vegan taco!

One thing I do recommend is SALT. Tofu is very very very bland and you NEED to add salt to make this taste good, trust me. If at the end, you realize it still needs some salt, feel free to just sprinkle some on top when you’re about to eat. It’s definitely going to be trial and error with the amount of salt you put in. I think more is more in this scenario!

Recipe for Delicious Tacos

The ingredients you’re going to need for this recipe are tofu, smoked paprika, chili powder, cumin, onion powder, salt & pepper, garlic powder, canola oil, minced garlic, and chopped onion. Optional toppings are: Pico de gallo, sour cream, cilantro, and lime. Don’t forget the tortillas of course! Otherwise, how else will you make vegan tacos?

The first you think want to do is press the liquid out of the tofu. You can use a tofu presser, which I highly recommend, or just use my broke method of squeezing it in-between a bunch of paper towels a few times. You don’t want it to be completely dry or it’ll get to dry when baking. We don’t want that!

I used 3/4 of a tofu block, but honestly feel free to use the whole thing! With your hands or fork, break the tofu into pieces! Then add all the spices and mix. In a pan, add a drizzle of canola oil. When hot add the garlic & onions and cook until fragrant. Add the tofu in and cook for a few minutes. This is just to get the spices melted and mixed well.

Pop into the oven (preheated at 375ºF) and cook for 20 minutes, stirring half way. You’re done! plate and add all the toppings!
