I have always wanted to have a spa day at a fancy place with the cucumbers and fuzzy robes. However, I’m super broke and I also just don’t want to go alone. Accepting applications for a Girls’ Spa Day! While I may not have all of the fancy treatments and facials, I thought it would be fun to create a way to have yourself an at home spa day on a budget! This will include stuff you probably wouldn’t do in a spa but would really be such a relaxing self-care day!
Set the Mood
First thing you need to do is shut off any overhead lights and turn on any of your smaller lamps. I like to turn on our salt lamp and light some candles! If you don’t have any candles, or can’t afford the $20 ones, they sell candles at TJ Maxx and HomeGoods for around $4-$6 a candle! If this is also too much, you could go to the Dollar Tree and purchase a simple candle for $1!
They probably won’t have much of a scent, but it will create an ambience you need to really start to unwind. If you want to get a salt lamp, this one is one of Amazon’s best sellers!
If you want to have your spa day during the day, you can still turn on your salt lamp, but I wouldn’t worry too much about lighting! Natural lighting can be really relaxing too!
Take A Warm Bubble Bath or Shower
I know some people just don’t like bubble baths, but when it comes to helping you unwind I think they’re great! Now is a great time to get a bubble bath going, pour some epsom salts in (Epsom Salts are so great for sore muscles!) and just relax.
I personally find I can’t stay too long in a bath, but the time I am in there I try to just lay in silence and just spend some time reflecting or meditating. If I had a pillow or even a fun tray I would probably live in the bathtub! I really like this caddy but it’s around $50! Definitely on the list!
Face/Hair/Nails
Having yourself your own little spa day can be whatever you want it to be! You can make it as fancy or as simple as you’d like! One of the ways I like to unwind is to start off by completely cleaning my face with my skin routine. After that, I’ll apply one of my face masks!
I also like to use hair treatments when I do these, so now is the perfect time! Mask for your face and a mask for your hair! I like to take this time to paint my nails a cute color. I don’t know why I do this because it doesn’t even last an hour without getting chipped, but the activity is very calming for me!
If you’re not interested in facial treatments, then you can just wet a clean towel with hot or warm water and place that on your face for a few minutes to open your pores! It feels so amazing!
Get A Drink
I personally would choose a calming tea, but this is a great time to drink whatever make you feel the most cozy! Whether it’s tea or a glass of white wine, this is your night to just unwind and have a nice time! If you don’t have tea or can’t drink wine, you can also heat up some water and add some lemon to it! This is great for you and also tastes really nice!
Music
A spa day is a great time to listen to more ambient/instrumental music instead of your usual. If you listen to music without lyrics, you’re more likely to just listen to the music and relax than wanting to sing or dance! Makes sense, right? If you have Spotify, I highly recommend listening to playlists like Piano in the Background or Brain Food for my favorite type of ambience!
Again, this is totally optional! Some people prefer to just sit in silence for once after a day full of noise which I totally get! Sometimes I feel like I am SO sick of music, and just need to sit in silence or I’ll listen to the birds chirping.
Cozy Clothes
This is really crucial to get that spa like feel! You can obviously just do the old bathrobe and fuzzy slippers, but I personally prefer to just wear my short and tank top PJ set! It’s soft and makes me feel so cozy and happy! If you would rather wear sweats and a t shirt, that works too! Whatever makes YOU feel comfortable and like you’re having your own version of a spa day.
What if I don’t want to do one of these?
The fantastic thing about this list is that you can do just one of these a night and still have a really nice moment of self care that you deserve. You can pick and choose which ones you want to do on this list or do them all! These are not your typical “spa” features, but the great thing about doing this at home is the ability to make it your own.
Maybe a spa day to you is having a really nice DIY facial with a girlfriend while drinking white wine. Perhaps you prefer to eat popcorn in your PJs and paint your nails while watching Netflix! Whatever it is, I recommend you have one at least once a week! Some of these would be so fun with friends or even your significant other, but for the most part.. a little self love can be done alone!
